Presentation Summary

The SR 528 Widening Project crosses the Banana River Lagoon, part of the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary and initially, proposed offsite ponds within estuarine wetlands. TLP facilitated partnering between FDOT and Brevard County to fund a septic-to-sewer project to remove nutrients to satisfy water quality needs. Thus, eliminating the offsite ponds. The result was direct environmental benefits and a more resilient transportation system.

Jim Myers, PE, serves as Vice President and Chief Drainage Engineer at TLP Engineering Consultants, a civil engineering firm headquartered in Orlando, Florida. With 38 years of experience in Florida, he has built an impressive resume of providing innovative, cost effective and functional solutions for large, complex projects while enhancing resiliency and benefiting the environment. His work has earned numerous professional accolades and awards.

Steve Johnston, PE

Steve Johnston, PE, is a Senior Drainage Engineer at TLP Engineering Consultants with 13 years of experience specializing in transportation drainage solutions. Steve works at the forefront of new methodologies and technologies and is recognized within the industry as a resource for integrating innovative solutions into projects with unique challenges.

Casey Lyons, MS

Casey Lyon currently serves as the Environmental Manager for the Florida Department of Transportation, District 5. Ms. Lyon has over twenty years of natural resource monitoring experience and environmental permitting experience involving protected wildlife and wetlands. Her current general and previous duties include National Environmental Policy Act compliance, wildlife and wetland monitoring, threatened and endangered species assessments, wetland delineations, permitting and mitigation for impacts to threatened and endangered species and wetlands, wetland creation, Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments, and land management activities for habitat restoration including mechanical treatments and fire application.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida and a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Central Florida.
